Where is Glen Waverley and what is it like?
Glen Waverley is a multi cultural suburb 19 km south-east from Melbourne's central business district and is approximately 40 minutes by train from the Central Business District. Its Local Government Area is the City of Monash. At the 2006 Census, Glen Waverley had a population of 38,219. Glen Waverley is one of the most populated suburbs in Australia.
The main street of Glen Waverley is Kingsway. In recent years, Kingsway has developed into a vibrant Chinese dining and entertainment area, with strong Asian influences. Because of Glen Waverley's lively social scene, many restaurants and cafes open until late hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Kingsway also is taken up by Century City Walk, a cinema multiplex. It houses various eateries, a Strike Bowling Bar and a Village Cinema. A night market also operates on Saturdays during the months between December and February from 3pm to 10pm.
There are now many hotels such as Novotel Glen Waverley, Hotel Ibis, Waverley International Hotel, and the Quest Hotel. Glen Waverley has also developed to become somewhat of a business hub in metropolitan Melbourne, with many international companies including BMW, Nestle, Toshiba, Adidas, NEC, and 3M all having their Australian headquarters in the suburb.
What is the Glen Waverley Campus like?
The Glen Waverley Campus of Wesley College has approximately 1,200 students from Kindergarten through to Year 12 and it is set on 54 hectares of open fields. Buses stop at the front gate, and the Syndal Station, on the Glen Waverley line, is within walking distance.
