International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)
Posted 7 December 2011
Wesley College is pleased to announce that the Wesley College Council recently endorsed the Wesley staff’s proposal to introduce the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate (IB MYP) across all campuses of the College commencing in Year 7, 2013.
Since 2003, the College has been teaching the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate (IB PYP) from early childhood to Year 6, and will now progressively introduce the IB MYP from Years 7 to 10 by 2016.
The IB MYP is an educational framework for students aged 11-16 which reinforces the College’s vision for learning to know, learning to do, learning to live with and learning to be.
The IB MYP was created to help develop inquiring, caring and knowledgeable young people and is based on worldwide educational research and principles of excellence in teaching and learning. It offers a framework for broad, deep and balanced learning within which participating schools across the world can construct a curriculum that is globally relevant, locally responsive and compliant at both state and national levels in Australia.
The substantial work undertaken by many Wesley staff over the last five years in redesigning the middle years curriculum at Wesley will be invaluable in the introduction of the IB MYP. The introduction of the IB MYP will enhance the application of common learning approaches and standards throughout the compulsory years of education across the College. The rigour and breadth of the program will provide excellent preparation for the VCE, VET, IB Diploma, and the ACER National Diploma, in Years 11 and 12.
By adopting the IB MYP, Wesley College will join a world-wide community of more than 3, 000 schools in over 140 countries giving staff access to a broad range of teaching resources, teacher training and professional development opportunities and supplementary information about the IB MYP and its introduction can be found on the IB website.
