Wesley musicians with Hoang and Chris
Posted 9 August 2011
On Wednesday 20 July, the Society for the Arts held a concert in the Iwaki Auditorium, Southbank, featuring former Wesley College students Hoang Pham (OW2002) and Chris Howlett (OW2002), along with music students from all three campuses.
McArthur Strings from Elsternwick opened the concert, acknowledging the start of Hoang and Chris’s early music making in McArthur Strings under the direction of Wendy and Alan Tooke. Chris enjoyed conducting the ensemble, while Hoang played the piano for the ensemble.
Amongst a variety of other musical items, there was a large cello ensemble of nearly 30 students from all campuses, three piano duos, where a student from each campus played a duet with Hoang, a piano trio, string quartet, the Beethoven Sonata in G Minor, for cello and piano, performed by Hoang and Chris and the final item involved singers from all the campuses, singing a lovely arrangement of the Skye Boat Song, accompanied by Chris on cello and Hoang on piano.
It was a very inspirational concert and one which will be etched in the memories of both the students who performed and all those who attended the concert.
