A big year for music

10 May 2011 You’ve heard it here first, 2011 will be one of the most exciting years for Wesley College music…. ever! The music school is already overflowing with excitement. The string players are rocking out with their violas, the jazz geeks are getting funky with their trombones. Everybody is getting ready for a monster year of music.

Last year’s absolutely epic year has given the bands of 2011 a lot to live up to. In 2010, the Wesley College Big Band won first prize in the National Stage Band Championships at Mt Gambier. Although Wesley College achieved their most outstanding results across all campuses last year, this success has only boiled the blood of this year’s band, determined to gain even better results.

This year is also set out to be a stellar twelve months for the singers of the school. Like the Big Band, the a Capella choir is heading down to Mt Gambier to compete in the brand new singing division of the National Stage Band Championships. Not only do the singers have a beastly year ahead but one of the most special events of 2011 will be the Anzac tour during the term one holidays. This is a once in a lifetime trip that give 70 students the opportunity to perform in places such as Paris, Ypres and Frommelles as well as showing off some of the talent that can be heard in the brand spanking new Festival Orchestra.

Of course, there will still be many performances throughout the year from ensembles such as the Senior School Concert Band, String Orchestra, Pop Choir and a whole lot more. So please, get involved if you haven’t already! There are still heaps of opportunities to perform music at Wesley and even if you don’t perform in any of these ensembles, make sure you come down and watch to support your friends.
