Welcome to the 2011 School Year

With 2011 already underway, the commencement of the school year has most definitely kicked off on a positive note. I trust that students across all campuses have eagerly returned to Wesley ready and rejuvenated for what shall be another memorable year.
Jack and I anticipate that opportunities will be seized and that challenges will be recognised and fearlessly acted upon through the diverse and engaging string of activities that shall be on offer. As captains, we look forward to not only being amongst the action throughout the year; but to encourage and remind those about the value of mateship and personal endeavour – these fundamental principles are what shape our passions and also our willingness to succeed as a team or as an individual.
At the end of our commencing week of school, as elected student Prefects and Captains, we were finally inducted towards our roles which showcased a very significant moment for us. We shared this memory with our family and friends and respective teachers whom had mentored us for many years at Wesley; and as an ongoing tradition, signed the book which also held the signatures of predecessors of our positions dating back to when the college first opened.
Our first official duties as Captains was our involvement at our Commencement Campus Assembly; a very special gathering where we were face to face with one another as one single school unit. An excerpt from our speech that was actually taken away from a speech delivered by 1989’s College Captain Andrew Kenneally stated, “…what I take away from Wesley is the knowledge that I am myself – an individual and not a product; the College has encouraged me to grow in the manner to which I am probably best suited. I have not been moulded nor manipulated, just encouraged.”
We feel that this short passage encapsulates our duties to consistently encourage and support those to achieve their personal goals and aims for the year; we are confident that passions will be fuelled and that students shall be making this year - their year to remember.
