Scholarships

Wesley College offers three scholarships:  Academic, General Excellence and the R.G. Menzies

Academic Scholarships for entry into Years 5, 7 and 10, 2009

Wesley College offers Academic Scholarships for entry into Years 5, 7 and 10 in 2009 at each of its three campuses: Elsternwick, Glen Waverley and St Kilda Road.  They are awarded based on the results of an examination held early in the previous year.

Wesley College uses Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) to conduct the scholarship testing. Students applying for an Academic scholarship at Wesley College for entry in 2009 must sit the test at one of our campuses on Saturday 1 March 2008.

Registrations are now open.  Applications will close at 5.00pm on Tuesday 26 February 2008 

  • Open to students who are in Years 4, 6 and 9 in 2008
  • Scholarships awarded cover up to 50% of the tuition fees
  • Tenable for the remainder of an applicant's secondary schooling
  • The scholarship tests are conducted at each of the campuses by ACER

Details of Testing

  • The ACER scholarship test will be held on Saturday 1 March 2008 at each campus, commencing at 8.45am and concluding at approximately 12.00pm.  Please ensure that you arrive by no later than 8.30am
  • Students are required to bring:
    • 2 black or blue pens
    • 2 HB or B pencils
    • pencil sharpener
    • pencil eraser
    • watch or silent clock
  • Current Wesley students are not required to wear school uniform
  • Candidates will be provided with a drink and snack for morning tea

Interviews

After the exam, a number of candidates will be short-listed and invited to attend an interview. Please do not ring the College as all short-listed candidates will be contacted by telephone.

Candidates presenting for interview will be required to bring a copy of their latest school report.

Registration

A fee of $80 is required for each application and payment is required at the completion of the registration process, which can only be done online. If you do not have a credit card facility, please contact ACER on 9277 5705 to arrange an alternative payment method at a small charge. Applications received after the closing date will incur a late fee of $50.

Terms and Conditions

  • Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of the examination, previous school reports and an interview
  • An invitation to attend an interview does not mean that the student will be offered a scholarship
  • Results of scholarship examinations are confidential and not released by the College
  • Scholarships are not available to overseas full fee paying students
  • Following the interview process, offers will be made in writing by the Principal. Any offers of scholarships not accepted by the due date will be offered to other students
  • Scholarships are awarded on the proviso that the student continues to maintain satisfactory high standards of academic achievement and participates to the very best of their ability in campus and College life and adheres to College policy
  • Successful students who are not current Wesley students will be required to pay $900 as a non-refundable deposit to confirm acceptance of the scholarship
  • The scholarship does not cover other costs such as consolidated charges, uniform, books, Clunes residential program (living expenses) or additional music tuition
  • All applicants, both successful and unsuccessful, will receive notification and a report of their testing in due course
  • The College will not enter into a dispute regarding the awarding of the scholarships

General Excellence Scholarships for entry in 2009

Wesley College offers General Excellence Scholarships for entry into Years 5-12, 2009

  • Open to students who are in Year 4 and above in 2008
  • Scholarships awarded cover up to a maximum of 50% of the tuition fees
  • Tenable for the remainder of an applicant's secondary schooling

Assessment Criteria

The General Excellence Scholarship is assessed by application, taking five categories into consideration:

  • Academic record
  • Sporting achievements
  • The Arts
  • Leadership and community service
  • Contribution to the College/current school

Details of Application

Registrations are now open. Applications will close at 5.00pm on Monday 31 March 2008. To apply for the General Excellence Scholarship:

  • Download and complete the registration form by clicking on the link at the end of this section
  • Attach a copy of the candidate's latest school report
  • Attach a recent photograph of the candidate
  • No other information is required - please do not attach anything else to the application

Interviews

The selection panel will review all applications and a number of candidates will be short-listed and invited to attend an interview. Please do not ring the College as all short-listed candidates will be contacted by telephone.

Candidates presenting for interview will be required to bring any supporting documentation to substantiate claims made in their application. They may also bring other certificates and awards that they wish the panel to view.
