Police Records Check
A Current Police Records Check is required to apply for a position at Wesley College
IntroductionA special relationship of trust exists between College staff, students and parents. That trust is necessary to enable us to undertake the important role of educating students whilst having the daily care and control of children. The capacity for that relationship of trust to exist is largely dependent on the quality and standards required by Wesley College. It is a credit to our staff that Wesley has maintained the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.
PolicyExemplary standards of conduct and professionalism and concern for the safety of all our children are fundamental to Wesley College values. For that purpose, and consistent with current Government school policy, all persons seeking employment will be required to provide a satisfactory police record check. Emergency Teachers, regular contractors to the College and non-Wesley staff assisting as volunteers or participating in school sponsored excursions and programs will also be required to provide a police records check.
Implementation To be eligible to be offered a position at Wesley College all applicants or persons who assist in school-sponsored excursions and programs must provide a current satisfactory police record check. Position and program documentation and advertisements on the College website will advise that a satisfactory police records check is required to be considered for an appointment at Wesley.
A current police records check is defined as being one that has been carried out within the twelve months immediately prior to the position being advertised. For teachers Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching showing that a criminal record check has been undertaken since 1 January 2003 is acceptable as a Current Police Records Check.
It is necessary for all members of families working with the College in the Homestay Programs, who are eighteen years of age or older, to provide a current satisfactory police record check to the College Homestay Coordinator.
The police records check document once sighted and noted by the College will be destroyed in accordance with police privacy requirements.
