Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies (International Baccalaureate)
The Faculty of Education at The University of Melbourne, in conjunction with Wesley College, launched an innovative new program, the Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies (International Baccalaureate), in August 2005.
The course is designed around the philosophy and practices underlying the International Baccalaureate Programmes. The initial certificate course focuses on the Primary Years Programme (PYP), renowned worldwide as offering one of the best primary education frameworks. The Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies (IB) is designed to provide practising primary teachers with a balance between theory and practice and assist them to integrate educational research into a supportive and challenging learning environment from local, national and international perspectives.
The partnership between academics of The University of Melbourne and educational practitioners of Wesley College, with support and cooperation from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is the first of its kind in the world and the unique feature of this model is that the qualification will be taught in an IB school (Wesley College), by experienced IBO teachers and educators from The University of Melbourne.
Expanding rapidly in Australia and throughout the Asia Pacific region, the PYP combines best practices and research from a range of national systems with the wealth of knowledge in international schools, to create a transdisciplinary curriculum which is relevant, challenging and engaging for learners aged three to twelve years.
