Yarra Boatshed
The Yarra Boatshed is located in a delightful bend of the Yarra River, near Herring Island and Como Park. It is available for use, when not being used for rowing training. The function area has a spectacular view of the river and contains a kitchen, tables and chairs and can comfortably accomodate 60 people.
Chum Creek
Chum Creek is the oldest compulsory school camp in Victoria and its history dates back over 50 years. It is situated in the foothills of the Yarra Ranges in the Chum Valley, about half way between Toolangi and Healesville and totals about 300 acres. The original 200 acres was donated to the school in 1952 by the late Alfred Wall, a parent whose family still own land adjacent to the camp and the remaining 100 acres, the East Block, was purchased in late 1999 - Chum Creek itself forms the far boundary of this block.
Chum Creek is situated on the edge of the Yarra Valley and is very close to the Yarra Valley wineries and Healesville Sanctuary. It is about 15 minutes drive from Healesville township and a further 1.25 hours drive from central Melbourne.
The original inhabitants of the area were the Wurundjeri, some descendants of whom still live in the Healesville area. Anglo-Celtic settlers of the region were mainly involved in the timber industry although some did move through the Chum Valley in search of gold. CJ Dennis wrote much of his poetry and musings in the area of Toolangi.
Camp Description The campsite consists of two main accommodation blocks with adjoining bathroom facilities, the study centre and the new Lormer Centre, which has a fully equipped commercial kitchen and spacious open-plan dining and lounge facilities leading onto a large outdoor patio. It is designed using environmental principles and has a wood burner to heat the living area in winter and also has disabled toilet facilities.
There are two groups of buildings available for accommodation, for up to 36 people in total. Each group contains 3 bedrooms, each sleeping 6 in bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities. The beds are provided with foam mattresses, but you will need to bring all other linen, pillows and food.
Access is not available to the Alfred Wall Studies Centre, First Aid room, gear room, laundry, visiting teachers rooms or the low or high ropes courses, or any other outdoor camp equipment, except by prior arrangement. In the case of the ropes courses, a qualified instructor must supervise all use.
The whole campsite is a non-smoking area and no pets are allowed. There is no minimum length of stay and you may stay as long as it is not required by the College.
Clunes
The Clunes campus is located in the centre of historic Clunes, about 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne or 35 kilometres from Ballarat. The campus is occupied by about 100 Year 9 students from the three city campuses of Wesley for four, 8-week blocks each year, but at other times it provides affordable seminar, conference and holiday accomodation.
Clunes, a small rural township with a permanent population of 850, has a rich gold history and there are many historical buildings including a museum in the main street. Further local information can be found at www.ballarat.com/clunes
Campus Description The campus provides 12 double-storied, self-contained family units in a village-style setting. Each unit has four twin-share bedrooms and two bathrooms, a separate laundry with washing machine and dryer and a fully-equipped kitchen/dining/lounge area. No linen is provided. Several of the units provide disabled access and bathroom facilities and all units are heated. The grounds are extensively landscaped and an outdoor basketball/netball court and games oval is located next to the campus.
For large indoor functions, access can be arranged to the adjacent Clunes Town Hall or for recreational activities, the Clunes basketball stadium. The town pool is open throughout the summer period.
The whole campus is a non-smoking area and no pets are allowed. There is a minimum stay of two nights and a maximum stay of two weeks (three in January).
Camp Mallana
Camp Mallana is located on a five hectare site on the northeast tip of the Banksia Peninsula, about 4 hours drive from Melbourne between Bairnsdale and Paynesville. The site extends down to the sheltered shore of Duck Arm on one side and to the wide, open waters of Lake Victoria on the other side.
The peninsula itself is a low, sandy remnant of an ancient shoreline, but is now covered with low eucalyptus and banksia woodland. Originally owned by the Barton family, they began to donate 10-acre blocks to a number of Christian youth organisations in the 1950's to provide camping experiences for young people. A number of church or church school campsites are still located near Mallana.
Camp Description The campsite consists of several accomodation and other buildings. There are two separate ablutions blocks, large open-plan kitchen facility with 6-burner gas stove, hotplate and double oven, assorted pots and pans, double door fridge and top opening freezer. There is also a dining area with 3 large tables seating 36 and a carpeted library for quiet activities.
Accomodation is best suited to families or groups of friends. There are three accomodation buildings, two with beds for 12 each (bunk-style beds in two separate rooms) and the other with beds for 20 (a mixture of bunk-style and single beds spread between five rooms), giving a total camp capacity of 44. Mattresses and pillows are provided, but all other linen and food must be brought.
The boatshed, private staff facilities, camp equipment and watercraft are not available for use during the holidays, however you may bring your own watercraft and access the launching facilities at the top of Duck Arm.
The whole campsite is a non-smoking area and no pets are allowed. There is no minimum length of stay and you may stay as long as it is not required by the College.
