Sport at Wesley
In recognition of the fact that sport and physical education play a key role in the development of children, they are compulsory at Wesley College. Physical Education is a core subject for students from Years 4 - 10.
A broad range of sports
Our sports program aims to provide fun and enjoyment and to carry on a strong and successful sporting tradition.
Wesley prides itself on offering a broad range of sports:
- Athletics, rowing, badminton, snowsports, basketball, soccer, cricket, softball, cross country, swimming, diving, table tennis, football, tennis, gymnastics, water polo, hockey, volleyball, rowing, netball
The Wesley sports program
Over 120 teams compete each week from Year 7 to Firsts level:
- Students in Years 5 & 6 (includes Year 4 at Elsternwick) compete each Wednesday afternoon against other independent schools. Saturday sport is compulsory for Year 7 students and above
- Years 7 and 8 compete in all three seasons, the summer season (November to April), the winter season (April to August) and the spring season (August to October)
- Year 9 students compete in a minimum of two seasons of sport per year. The spring season is optional
- In Years 10 and 11, students complete two seasons of cocurricular activity, one of which must be sport for the summer or winter season
- In Year 12, all students complete a minimum of one season of sport per year, chosen from the summer or winter season
Within each season, the student will attend two training sessions per week in his/her chosen sport and compete on Saturday (usually mornings), or occasionally on Friday after school.
Students also have the opportunity to travel interstate or overseas on sporting tours.
