Creativity, Action and Service
Each student undertaking the International Baccalaureate Diploma must complete a Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program involving them in a range of activities alongside their academic studies which enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. CAS is not formally assessed but students need to document and reflect upon their activities, providing evidence that they have achieved eight key learning outcomes. This documentation is monitored regularly by the relevant IBO regional office. A CAS program is the responsibility of the student. Ideally, students should seek out activities, in consultation with the CAS supervisors. The emphasis at Wesley has been to encourage the students to develop their own programs so that the experience is a personal and meaningful one that facilitates the student's interests and initiative. Service activities are one of the more rewarding aspects of the CAS program. Wesley students have undertaken a wide range of service activities, including involvement in: Wesmob, International Student Relations, Juvenile Diabetes, Sacred Heart Mission St Kilda, Lentil as Anything, St Mary's House of Welcome, Surf Lifesaving, St John Ambulance Cadets, World Vision 40 Hour Famine, Moomba Festival (working alongside Lions Club), overseas projects, James Macready-Bryan Foundation, Freemason's Homes, Central Park Homes, Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning (SAIL) and Big Cake-Little Cake.
“Sometimes in CAS what we set out to learn, and what we actually learn, are two very different things.”
Here are a few projects that students have been involved in where they have made a real difference:
