Andy Boyd (OW1908), of the 5th Battalion, was killed in France on 15 April 1917. In his last letter he wrote that his division had been rushed from Flanders by motor, cattle truck, and on foot to stop the rush on Amiens, so there is no doubt where he met his death. He wrote:
I am writing this sitting on my pack in a dirty back yard. Not a cig. to be had for love or money. I think there is a rough time in front of us, but I suppose we shall carry on as usual.
One of his mates wrote:
Poor Andy Boyd was killed yesterday, the 15th April (though the official notification says 14th). We are burying him today, and have fixed up a cross. It is the best we can do here.
