Cross Country Premierships

Wesley’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams are celebrating, having won both APS Premierships for 2016. For the girls team this was an historic “fifth premiership in a row” and for the boys, the first time.

Girls’ team captain Jemima Montag says, “The 2016 cross country season was a culmination of the hard work and team spirit put in by all team members and coaches - an enjoyable and very rewarding string of races closing with the final presentation day of excitement for both the boys and girls teams. For Wesley to win both APS premierships was a tribute to years of athlete development and I’m sure this is only the beginning of many more years of success for Wesley cross country.”

The lead up rounds were held across Melbourne, including Albert Park, Bundoora Park and Norton’s Park, which is rated as one of the toughest courses in the APS. All students trained extremely hard throughout the season and many Sundays were spent running in Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenong Ranges. At the final round of competition, held at Yarra Bend Park in Kew, eleven individual top 10 performances were recorded.

We congratulate both teams on their 2016 premierships and look forward to watching their talent develop further in the next few years.
