The McQueens named in top six school bands
Posted 12 August 2011
Three St Kilda Road Year 12 students make up three-quarters of the indie-electronic band The McQueens, who were named in the top six high school bands in Australia in the Triple J Unearthed High poll. Secondary school students from all over Australia voted Julian Newman, Noah Harris and Julian O’Donnell’s original songs incredibly high, considering that they were competing against almost 700 other bands.
The McQueens compare their sounds to that of Wolfgang, and say that their musical influences are The Killers, Muse and Queen.
Noah, who sings, plays guitar, synthesizer and keyboards for The McQueens, says We are all really excited about hearing our songs on the radio and it has also been great receiving calls from people who have heard our music. At the moment we are enjoying the challenge of juggling band and school commitments, but with exams on the horizon, pretty soon we will have to focus solely on school! However, after school is finished we plan on jumping straight back into it.
Wesley College is very proud of their oustanding achievement and looks forward to following more of their successes in the future.
