Opening of the new Glen Waverley Sports Complex
Posted 30 June 2011
The College’s new sports centre at Glen Waverley was officially opened on Monday 6 June, by Anna Burke, Member for Chisholm. Fourteen months in the making, it contains two netball/basketball courts, three practice volleyball courts, one “show” volleyball court and multiple badminton courts, as well as a weights and conditioning room, Physical Education (PE) staff office, a First Aid room, plus change rooms and toilets.
The design of the building includes important environmental features such as natural ventilation systems, excellent day lighting and rainwater harvesting, while the façade is composed of highly insulated composite metal panels. The project was funded by the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER) Funding Program and from the Wesley College Capital and Foundation programs.
With Wesley College’s obligatory lion emblem featuring prominently, the structure definitely has a “wow” factor and it will be used for PE classes, sports training sessions across the College, as well as Associated Public Schools (APS) sports games and for community sport groups.
The Sports Centre complements the Glen Waverley campus’ already existing 18.5 hectares of open fields and other sport facilities, and will ensure that the campus’ and College's reputation for sport continues to grow.
